The Vision Impact Institute Remembers Ambassador Wu

Remembering Ambassador Wu

Ambassador Wu Jianmin
1939-2016

It is with a heavy heart that I share with you news of the passing of our esteemed Advisory Board member, Mr. Wu Jianmin. As the former Chinese Ambassador to France, the Netherlands and the United Nations in Geneva before heading to the influential Foreign Affairs University in Beijing, Mr. Wu was known and respected worldwide.

The Vision Impact Institute (VII) was saddened to learn Mr. Wu died in a car accident in Wuhan, Hubei province, early on Saturday. As you can imagine this tragedy quickly made news across China and is heartbreaking to all who knew him.

As a founding member, Mr. Wu was serving his fourth year on the VII Advisory Board and had a passion for vision health that was far reaching. He was instrumental in the significant expansion of the VII in China, including the Chinese translation of the website and recent launch on WeChat. It was his challenge that prompted the movement toward translations into other languages, and for this we are truly grateful. Outside the VII, his political career spanned more than 40 years, and he most recently served as a professor at the China Foreign Affairs University and as Chairman of the Shanghai Centre of International Studies.

Mr. Wu was the Vice Chairman of the Institute of Strategy and Management, as well as a member of the Foreign Policy Advisory Committee of the Foreign Ministry, and he served as the Honorary President of the Bureau of International Exhibitions. In 2004, he was elected as a full member of the European Academy of Sciences, Arts and Humanities. Mr. Wu was an accomplished author and has published over 100 research papers.

On behalf of the Vision Impact Institute and its Advisory Board, I would like to extend our condolences, as we were honored to know him and to be recipients of his guidance and leadership. He will be missed.
