Vision for Balance

The Vision Impact Institute recognizes a struggle that many women face each and every day – cultural stigmas about wearing eyeglasses.

Not only are these stigmas pervasive today, but they contradict the real strength, intelligence, ability, and even beauty that women possess.

The quality of life benefits of vision correction can be enormous both socially and economically.

If you are a woman and have a story of personal struggle against these stigmas, we not only want to hear your story, but we want to give your vision a voice for the many who are just like you.

Breaking Stigmas & Building Pathways For Women’s Vision

Kristan Gross, Global Executive Director of the Vision Impact Institute discusses how we can create a more balanced world for women when it comes to access to vision care.

Dr. Millicent Knight, Senior Vice President, Essilor Customer Development, discusses how education and access play a role in ensuring all women and girls are equipped to live an empowered life.

Becky Palm, President and Executive Director of the Essilor Vision Foundation, highlights the positive impact that a pair of glasses can have on all children, especially in instilling confidence in young girls, and the important role that parents can play in supporting good vision care.

Dr. Priya Morjaria of the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine reminds us that parents can play an important role in breaking stigmas when their daughters require a pair of glasses.

Dr. Fanny Rivera, Director and Founder of FitVision Sports Optometry in Colombia, highlights the real impact that women face when they wear glasses, especially as it relates to career potential and self-esteem.
